Gerald Dewsbury

After graduating from Falmouth School of Art Gerald Dewsbury pursued his vocation and career as an Artist, moving to North Wales in search of a wilder and more varied landscape. His artwork spans a broad spectrum - from introspective perceptions through to symbolic and romantic landscapes, objective studies, architectural portraits and wildlife illustrations. His subjects and concerns stem primarily from his own particular perception of what is seen about him and how he relates to it.

Gerald's landscapes are detailed and meticulously observed. Years living in the midst of the landscapes he paints has given him a thorough and intimate knowledge of his environment. But the work is not merely accurate, it is imbued with imagination and an unsentimental spirituality - the woods he paints are living communities, and the individual trees are unique and specific, they have attitude and real presence. He can catch nature's dynamism, the processes of growth and decay.

Geralds commitment to the preservation and protection of our natural environment is passionate. And his work, rooted in thenature which inspires him and sustains us all is always thoughtful and full of wonder.

Gerald Dewsbury's work appears in many public and private collections. He is married to Kim. After living for 30 years near Corwen, they moved to Southwest Wales in 2024.
