Kyffin Williams 1918 - 2006

Portrait of Dorothy Anne McLaren, 1968
Oil on Canvas
56cm x 92cm
"Anne was a tall and lovely girl of considerable style who, after starting life with the surname of Mostyn-Owen-Jodrell, had relinquished it to marry an old friend of mine with the name of Michael Baillie-Grohman. They were a striking couple as he was six feet five inches and she very nearly six feet in height. They lived near to where I had a studio in London and I saw much of them; at least until Michael succumbed to the ravages of cancer." "I had always wanted to paint Anne because of her fascinating bone structure and her natural poise, so I was delighted when Michael suggested that she sat for me. I suppose that she was a natural model and could have made a successful living in the world of fashion. I had always liked Anne and, even though I gave her a look of sadness, I have always liked her potrait." Kyffin Williams 'Portraits' Kyffin Williams - Gomer Press - Page 100
