Martin Llewellyn: Gwaith Newydd | New Works

15 November - 2 December 2020

Martin only began painting full-time in 2012, but has already found an enthusiastic audience, with successful shows in Wales and in London. His last show with us was very popular, and we are pleased to present this new collection of his work, his largest to date.

His subjects are familiar: the landscape of North Wales; and he is rooted in the traditions of the 20th Century Welsh School. The sheer energy and muscularity of the work is exhilarating.

Everywhere is motion and joy and excitement! His palette knife is both bold and subtle, catching skies both turbulent and benign. He is skilful and observant enough to catch the waves as they break smoothly, the light glancing off the water or pushing through the trees.

His instinctive and straightforward empathy for the landscape gives his work considerable resonance.

Martin was born in Neath in 1963, where he still lives and paints.
