After her successful exhibition with us last year, we are very pleased to have a new body of work from Sarah.
In this collection of paintings her control of the paint and the palette knife is once again clear and very impressive. Under her knife the paint will bend and mix, smear into a turn or bank into a line. Controlling this energy takes skill. Such apparent simplicity and eloquence belies considerable discipline and intelligence. This work fizzes with energy - there is rhythm and speed, a kind of pulse.
We see an artist revelling in the beauty and balance of the world around her, but also revelling in her ability to catch it, dissect and reassemble it again. The work is full of harmony and echoes. All around us there are patterns everywhere: in the hills and the waves, the fields and hedgerows, the rows of houses. And beautiful, benevolent balance. Sarah gives us an artist who is equal parts wistful and wilful. It is an exhilarating combination.
Sarah was born in 1964 and brought up in Llannefydd. After training and working for a while in England, she returned to North Wales, initially to teach, and then to focus on her painting. She is rapidly becoming one of Wales's most important and accomplished artists.
(Please note: The last day to view the exhibition in its entirety is 17th July. The 20th of July will only be the remaining available works.)
