For his new show, Chris has made 24 paintings which catch North Wales in a friendly and generous mood. Buildings nestle comfortably in the languorous landscape under benign skies. Tracks stretch enticingly into the distance or down to calm seas. Trees and walls cast gentle, lazy shadows.
There is a palpable sense of peace here! His graphic style and distinctive palette, allow him to create simplified, balanced yet recognizable landscapes. While he is acute enough to show us the details that he wants us to notice: the tree rings in a pile of logs, lichen crusted walls, gently sagging roofs and drooping windows. The subtle reminders of the inevitable passage of time all around us.
He allows us to walk with him in a hopeful world of light skies, calm water and caressing shadows. He appreciates this calm.
Chris has been exhibiting with us since 2014. He has moved up to live in Penmachno, and his long walks in the mostly deserted landscapes near his home, armed with his sketchbook and an appreciation of the space for contemplation that solitude provides, are the inspiration for these captivating and characterful works.
