For her latest show, Kate has made a brand new collection of pieces inspired by the mountain landscapes of Wales.
The process of making the work is long and labour intensive. Each piece is built up in multiple layers, requiring multiple firings. The outcome always uncertain. The heat of the kiln can make magic, but can bring destruction too!
Skill and experience have taught Kate how her materials will behave so she is able to create work that is fine and detailed. And her medium is well suited to capturing the clarity and hardness of the landscapes that fascinate her. These scenes are brought to breathtaking life as the light passes through them, creating a unique glow and perspective. In the finished works the evanescence of the light and the permanence of the mountains are caught together.
Kate has her roots in Wales but lives and works these days in London. She is one of the UK's leading glass artists, exhibiting widely here and in Europe.
