Katie's new show is in some ways a surprise and a departure. Gone, for the most part are the vibrant colours and bright surfaces. In its place a subdued monochrome world spreads before us. However, the work is unmistakeably Katie's. It has the same elegance and composure, the same precision and balance. But there is a mood of unease, and loss. Evening approaches, perhaps.

The show is a revelation.

Years of observation, and a serious commitment to the natural world and the environment have always underpinned Katie's work. As well as being attuned to the landscape's natural seasonal changes, she cannot fail to notice and be alarmed by the changes to the landscape, over the course of years due to the effects of climate change, habitat and biodiversity loss, and our carelessness.

The show is a wake-up call.

Katie had to find new ways of working. Otherwise the work would stop. The collection uses materials derived from charcoal, and painted on clay board. This work is haunted and haunting. At once elegiac and pointed. This critical commitment is present in all aspects of her life and activism, social and environmental. Her medium embodies and enhances her message.

Inevitably, the change makes the work appear more sombre. There is doubt, yearning and regret. These are also political works which seek to disturb and persuade.

Katie lives and works in Swansea. She has been exhibiting with us since 2014, and her work appears in numerous public and private collections.
