Pete Monaghan: Gwaith Newydd | New Works

20 February - 14 March 2026

In his latest collection of paintings and collage, Pete explores the relationship between landscape and man's handiwork: his architecture and his shaping of the landscape.

His training as a technical illustrator helps him bring precision and clarity to his work. With a bracing absence of sentimentality, and a definite contemporary perspective he paints ordinary, practical buildings. They nestle within the sparsely populated rural landscapes which gave rise to them, and evoke the character and history of the people who made and occupied them.

Now, landscape and weather seem to be reclaiming them and their decay and dilapidation is eloquent, and becomes them. His graphic, layered approach is capable of catching the patient stoicism as well as the brutish vigour and ambition of vertiginous cityscapes.

Pete was born in 1961. After dividing his time between Wales and Germany for many years, he is now based near Aberystwyth. He has been exhibiting with us since 2016 and is highly collectable.
