Maurice Cockrill RA: Welsh Works

19 August - 12 September 2018

Maurice Cockrill RA 1936-2013.

Maurice Cockrill RA was one of the most versatile painters to have emerged in the UK since the Second World War. Restless, lyrical and challenging, his work evolved constantly, defying conventional categorization. Over decades, Cockrill opened his eyes anew to the world again and again, each time shifting the paint in new ways to reflect each new layer of vision. He is renowned for the breadth and variety of his techniques and themes.

He said: "The artists I've admired most, like Picasso, are the protean ones. I'd rather be changing shape than just be doing the same thing time after time."

These selected works, some unseen till now, span three decades and show paintings created in London and in his Conwy Valley Studio.

We were honoured to host Maurice Cockrill's final major exhibition at Ffin y Parc Gallery in May 2013.
