Carl Chapple: Painting Dance / Paentio Dawns

15 September - 9 October 2019

Originally from Dartmoor, Carl trained at St. Martin's School of Art in London, and settled in Barry in 2003. Painting Dance presents a selection of recent work made during the artist's ongoing residency with the international dance company Ballet Cymru in Newport.

It includes paintings and drawings created collaboratively with dancers through processes of improvisation, as well as responses to rehearsals of productions such as Romeo a Juliet, Celtic Concerto, and Divided We Stand. They are little jewels of grace and intensity, at once expressive and introspective.

Supported by Arts Council of Wales, the collection also reflects elements of the company's wider education and training programme, including the 2019 Wales International Ballet Summer School.
