Lisa Carter-Grist was born in Cardiff in 1972 and studied at St. Martin's School of Art. Having now settled in Llannefydd, North Wales, Lisa has been exhibiting at Ffin y Parc since we first opened.
In 1991 she won the National Eisteddfod Scholarship Award at Bro Delyn. In 2010, 2013 & 2019 she was selected for the Lle Celf exhibition at the National Eisteddfod in Bala and the Kyffin Williams Drawing Prize.
She has been shortlisted for The Royal Academy Summer Exhibition 2020 and selected for the Beep Painting Biennale 2020. Her works have been exhibited at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition 2015, 2019, Somerset House, & MOSTYN Gallery, Llandudno.
Lisa Carter-Grist says of her paintings
"I am as fascinated by the endless associativity that painted and drawn marks evoke as I am by shadows and forms in the real world. My subject is my imagination, the retrieval and supression of details that emerge and recede through the process of painting connecting with my thoughts.
"Whilst defining shapes and capturing patches of colour or texture, I chase suggestions of a scene or story that appears. All is open and quite brutal until a certain moment and it is then that I enhance marks, lines and colours in an attempt to capture the story and feeling suggested. I alter as little as possible as I want each painting to retain the sense of itself as painted marks.
"The titles are part of this narrative process. The scenes, objects or figures suggested are only partly formed or shifting between change and opposing feelings."
Lisa has had exhibitions with us in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2015, 2017, 2021 & 2022. She will return with a new body of work in March 2023.
