There is such vigour in the way he manipulates and moves the paint around, chopping and pressing it as if he can barely contain the physical energy and spirit of what he sees.
While he clearly understands and belongs in the tradition of Welsh landscape painters adept with the palette knife, and comfortable with the hues and moods of the landscape sea and sky. But he has a distinctive approach and an unmistakeable style. He is all about the movement and the perpetual restless energy.
The work has dynamism and a rare physicality. Not for him the quiet contemplation of grandeur! Martin rushes headlong to meet the racing wind.
The work is always full of gratitude, and a kind of innocent wonder. It is easy and exhilarating to let it sweep you along. The way Martin is able to communicate and connect with his audience is rare.
Martin was born in Neath, where he still lives, in 1963. He began painting seriously in 2012. He exhibits regularly successfully with us and in London and is collected widely.
